When you first get a computer, it usually runs pretty fast and smooth. After several months, it might move at a snail's pace without proper maintenance. A computer is just like any other machine; it needs to be cleaned, checked for problems, and optimized to unleash its full potential. Most people provide very little maintenance for their computers, but they still act surprised when they run out of hard drive space or have to wait several minutes for their computer to start up.

In the following articles, a few maintenance topics are discussed, but there are many more that you should be aware of discussed in my book. Some of the other topics include backing up your files, running disk scans, automating your tasks, using System Restore, speeding up bootup, and many more. Computer maintenance is a highly undervalued practice and hopefully these first articles will help make you aware of your responsibility to keep your computer running smoothly.
